A STREET plagued by road accidents has been hit by yet another car crash, with residents and councillors saying something must be done.
The crash occurred off Radcliffe Road, Darcy Lever at around 10.30 on Wednesday night when a speeding car hit house and another parked car belonging to the resident.
This is just the latest in a string of dangerous incidents afflicting the area over a period of several years.
David Foley, whose home and parked car were hit, said: “A speeding car ploughed into my house and car, my car was parked at the side of my house.
“This is now very serious, we are living in fear and need help!”
In recent times, Radcliffe Road and the surrounding area have been hit by a crash on December 2 when a car destroyed part of a fence and a crash in September where a car struck fencing on the corner of Buttermere Close and Park Road.
In response Cllr David Evans, who represents the Little Lever and Darcy Lever ward on Bolton Council, is calling for traffic calming measures.
He said: “In real terms what’s been demonstrated here is a pattern of behaviour and it shows the need for traffic calming measures, ideally a chicane system.”
He added: “It’s a long winding road, but it would slow the traffic.”
“One of the obstacles is that this road is a bus route but they can design chicanes that can accommodate that.”
Cllr Evans said that he would be discussing the most recent crash further with residents and that he intends to take the matter further with Bolton Council.
He said: “I’ll be supporting the resident through this stressful situation and he has every right to call for action to be taken.”
He added: “I understand the financial pressures the council is under but as far as I’m concerned we have to take a step back and think about the interests of public safety.”
