The most significant Covid-19 hotspots in Bolton have been revealed after cases rose by two-thirds in one neighbourhood.

The five areas where the highest infection rates were being recorded up to December 7 are in Little Lever, Breightmet South & Darcy Lever, Daubhill & Fernihill Gate, Doffcocker & Moss Bank and Bromley Cross & Bradshaw.

Conversely the neighbourhoods in Bolton with the lowest rates are Rumworth North, Halliwell & Brownlow Fold, Lever Edge and Westhoughton Daisy Hill.

Infection rates in the most areas of the borough rose for the week to December 7.

That figures includes 11 suspected cases in the week up to December 6.

Coronavirus ‘hotspots’ and ‘notspots’ can be revealed via an interactive map charting the number of positive Covid-19 test results in each neighbourhood across the country using government data.

It shows the number of infections per local area, broken down into neighbourhoods containing roughly 7,000 people.

The number of new cases is then used to calculate the infection rate per 100,000 people.

The highest infection rate was in Little Lever where the rate was 587, with 58 new positive cases.

This was an increase of 23, a 66 per cent rise from the previous week.

Next is Breightmet South and Darcy Lever, where the rate was 497 per 100,000 people, with 48 positive cases of the virus recorded in that week.

In third place is Daubhill and Fernihill Gate where there were 34 cases, equalling a rate of 458, with cases more than doubling in that week.

In the ‘notspots’ list, the area of Gilnow and Victory showed the lowest rate of infection.

It saw 15 cases, equalling a rate of 154 in the week to December 7.

Next is Rumworth North where the rate was 181 with only 16 incidences of the virus recorded.

Halliwell and Brownlow Fold follows with 16 cases and a rate of 186 per 100,000 people.
