WE continue to put the spotlight on some of the finest wateringholes in Bolton and surrounding areas in our weekly ‘Pub of the Week’ feature.
This time we’ve headed to Ainsworth Arms to speak to the relatively new landlord about the establishment and the reasons for their success.
Name of the pub:
Ainsworth Arms
Address of the pub:
606 Halliwell Rd
Landlord/landlady name:
Nigel Maloney
How long have you been the landlord/landlady for?
Three months
What are the pub staff called?
Saph, Kaya and Kristen
Give us some history about the pub:
Bought during lockdown by Bolton based pub company Tonge Leisure. We aim to bring back the community feel it enjoyed in its heyday under the stewardship off Tony and Carole Bretherton and previous to that the footballing Eastham family. Our unique point is that we sell up to 6 cask ales at a time. With local brews prevalent at the moment we have Blackedge of Horwich and Burnley’s Moorhouses on the bar. My sister worked here for many years and we all grew up only hundreds of yards away. I always remember calling in for a pint when Tony and Carole were licensees and it was the welcoming hub of the community for me. It has very much felt like coming home
There will be an emphasis on live sport and great beer.
Is food served? If so what’s on the menu?
Only the best Carrs pasties
Is there a beer garden?
Yes to the side
Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams?
Yes 2 darts teams
Most popular drink served is:
Local cask ales - Moorhouses white witch is our best seller.
Most memorable moment at the pub:
Not happened yet but as a local lad opening the doors for the first time was special
Do you have an entertainment line-up?
Northern Soul night this Saturday with Paul Munro and hopefully a brass band over the festive period
Have you faced any challenges within the industry?
As a landlord of 30 years+ many but running a hotel and restaurant during the pandemic is up there
The best thing about running a pub is...
Seeing people on their best days
The worst thing about running a pub is...
The people who don’t come in.
The perfect hangover cure is...
Never sober up / Carrs pasties.
