A NEW salon could be opening in Bolton after being converted from a house.

This comes after a planning application was submitted to Bolton Council which would see a new beauty Salon open on Adrian Road, Halliwell.

The plans will see the building use change from terraced house to shop for tanning and nail salon, with consultee comments on the application saying that they have no objection, despite limited parking in the area.

They said: "The proposed change of use will potentially place minimal additional on-street parking demand on the surrounding highways owing to the size of the Class E element indicated, which should be accommodated with little additional detriment/severity to road safety and residential amenity at that location."

According to the plans, a new single storey extension will be built at the rear of the property, as well as a new rear staircase at the property next door to the existing café.

The proposals will also see a self-contained flat above the salon, which will be used by the owners or somebody employed in the salon.

Hours for the new shop will be restricted to 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 4pm on Saturdays, and will be closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The application comes as a welcome boost for the salon and hairdressing industry following the Covid pandemic, which had a huge impact on the sector.

It will also come as a welcome boost to the local economy.

A report by National Hair & Beauty Federation commented that the beauty and hair industries were one of the sectors hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic with turnover falling by 45 per cent in 2020, compared to 2019’s figures.

Bolton in particular has seen salons hit hard over the last year and a half with the borough have been subject to local lockdowns and some of the highest infection rates in the country.
