A BOLTON domestic abuse charity celebrated their 44th birthday in style, by launching their first #WearItProud campaign.

Fortalice asked businesses and individuals to support them in September by wearing all things blue or purple and Bolton thoroughly got into the spirit.

Hosting raffles, bake sales and even creating personalised T-shirts, the event raised £3,385, which will help local victims of domestic abuse, during such a difficult time in their lives.

A range of businesses across the borough participated including Franking Sense, Evora Global, KBL, Benefit Mankind, ITAC, Bolton @ Home, Bolton University, Donnelly Bentley, Barlow Andrews, Fieldings Porter, Tesco, and ASDA.

Franking Sense managing director, Julian Gilbert, said it is the least they can do for such an amazing charity.

He said: “Through our ‘Friends Foundation’, we are happy to support Fortalice’s #WearItProud campaign. All staff including field engineers wore specially made t-shirts for the day, and it created a much needed buzz around the office for a serious fundraiser.

“When you take a look at the difficult work Fortalice does it is the least we can do for one of our chosen local charities.”

Fundraising manager Grace Wood said: “Thank-you to everyone who took part and embraced our first ever #WearItProud. We are so pleased of the support, which makes a difference to our families here. We are already looking forward to next year.”

The funds raised will help the charity continue to offer victims support around domestic abuse in the community and in the refuge accommodation, they will be helped to rebuild their lives.

Fortalice also delivers education programmes for young people in schools to help break the cycle of abuse.

Chief Executive of Fortalice, Gill Smallwood, said she wants to thank everyone who helped to make the campaign a success.

She said: “I would like to thank everyone who participated in this great event to raise funds for us.

“Your support helps us to ensure victims of domestic abuse and their children are safe and can access a diverse range of much needed services.

“As a mother said to me when she left the Refuge I just could not have done this without you, I feel ready to start a new life and it feels good to be safe. We could not do what we do without everyone’s support, a huge thank-you.”
