A PRIMARY school has been described as a ‘vibrant place for pupils to learn and thrive’ .

The Ferns Academy in Farnworth was subject to an Ofsted monitoring report, with inspectors finding the school continues to be good.

Inspectors described The Ferns as a “safe haven for pupils where they can be unique and follow their passions.”

They commented it as a place where leaders have high expectations for students, who value their education and are keen to achieve. Inspectors also said that: “Leaders and staff are highly ambitious in their work to provide the best for all students so that they achieve as well as possible”.

Inspectors found that children flourish in the early years at the academy after settling quickly, due to the caring, supportive relationships that they have with staff.

These relationships encourage the students to behave well with little disruption to learning. Pupils told Ofsted that their school is “the best”, and parents echoed that sentiment.

Both pupils and parents expressed pride in the school.

Inspectors noted that students are happy and feel safe because staff look after them, and care about what they say.

Danielle Broadbent, principal, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of our latest Ofsted report. We are particularly pleased with the comments we have received on the positive, supportive environment the whole academy works hard to create.

“Staff and students come together to create a thriving community at The Ferns Academy that encourages children to have high aspirations for their future and ensures they feel safe whilst they learn. We are very happy that the inspectors were able to experience this during their visit and that they recognised the commitment of our staff.”

James Howard, associate executive principal, said: “I am delighted with the report. It is testament to the excellent education pupils at The Ferns receive. The expert staff are focused on high outcomes across the curriculum, from reading and mathematics to humanities and the arts.”
