A PRIMARY school deputy head teacher has been suspended from her post after being charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl.
Wigan Council has confirmed Julie Morris has been suspended from her position at St George's Central Church of England Primary in Tyldesley.
Morris, 44, of Ancroft Drive, Hindley, has been charged with aiding and abetting rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child under 13.
Police said the allegations against her are not related to her employment at St George's Central Primary School.
Meanwhile, David Morris, 52, of Sandfield Road, Eccleston, St Helens, has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and causing and one of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Both David Morris and Julie Morris appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 6.
They have been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, October 4.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Julie Morris is employed in the education sector in Wigan.
"We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council to ensure that adequate safeguarding measures are in place."
