A HUNT has been launched for a driver after a serious crash in Burnden over the weekend.
Emergency services attended the scene in Manchester Road, just after 7pm on Saturday after a grey Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for police.
The Astra then collided with a blue Vauxhall Meriva opposite the Asda store.
Police say a woman in her 40s in the Meriva suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where she remains.
And officers have also said a man in the Astra fled the scene and police are appealing for help from anyone with information to get in touch.
The incident has also been referred to Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) professional standards branch.
Insp Jonathan Shivock, of GMP's roads policing unit, said: "This collision has left a woman with serious injuries in hospital and our thoughts remain with her whilst she makes a recovery.
"We're working to find a man who was suspected to have been driving the Astra.
"There may have been a number of people who witnessed the collision or saw the man make off and we'd ask those people to come forward and speak to us."
Anyone with information - or may have CCTV or dashcam footage - is asked to call 0161 856 4741. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
