Residents were awoken in the early hours of this morning after a car crashed into the bushes across from their houses.

Chorley New Road was closed both ways this morning due to an accident between Links Road and the Bolton Golf Club turn-off.

A man was taken to the hospital after the crash.

Emergency services were called at approximately 3.40am to the crash where a car had careered off the road into nearby bushes.

However, some residents have raised concerns on speeding in the area.

One resident from Lostock Park Drive, who does not want to be named, said there is a speeding issue on Chorley New Road and some cars reach speeds of 60 miles per hour.

He said: "There is a speeding issue here because a lot of people just fly down the road. Plenty of people come down this road doing 40, 50 or 60 miles per hour and you can tell that people just take advantage of the long road.

“It’s a residential street after all and in both directions, it’s just houses and a golf club across from us, but people don’t treat it like that.”

The resident said himself and his wife were awoken to screeches and a loud thud, but they presumed it was wildlife.

He said: “I woke up around the time 3:40am, hearing sorts of screeches and we heard a thud. My wife originally thought it was wildlife and someone had tried to avoid it and then we saw the car this morning and we realised it was a bit more than wildlife.

“The emergency services came just before four, I think, I can’t really add much more to it because we can’t really see over there from our house.”

The resident went onto say that he “definitely heard it” and the lady who lives a few doors up also heard it.

He said: “The lady a few doors up heard it as well, which is further away from the main road, so I don’t know what kind of speed they were doing."

On the other hand, another resident who lives nearby to the crash site said she didn't hear anything.

The car has now been removed but there is still a small amount of debris, including smashed glass and the car has caused a large gap in the Bolton Golf Club bushes.

The fire service said they had to remove a door from a car in order to let the driver out of the car.

The man was taken to hospital with chest and rib injuries which are thought to be non-life threatening.

A GMP spokesman said: "Officers were called to reports a car had crashed on Chorley New Road, Bolton, at about 3:40am today (26 August).

"NWAS and GMFRS also attended after the BMW left the road near the golf club.

"The male driver was taken to hospital with chest and rib injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening."
