A man has been arrested after a three-vehicle crash closed a road for many hours in Bromley Cross.
The crash happened just before 11.30pm in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, near the junction with Fairfields.
The road was closed between Tongefields and Smith Lane for a number of hours with police, ambulance, and the fire service attending the scene.
The fire service said one person had to be cut out of a vehicle with two taken to hospital, one in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.
A 25-year-old man has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and for failing to provide a breath sample, police said.
Bolton North Watch Manager Gareth Peter's said: "There were at least four cars involved in the crash including parked cars.
"Two peole have been taken to hospital but we are unsure of their injuries.
"It was a very messy incident."
A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called shortly before 11.25pm on Friday 13 August to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Darwen Road, Bolton.
"Two drivers were taken to hospital - one in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.
"A 25-year-old man was arrested in hospital and taken to custody after being discharged. He is being questioned on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs and for failing to provide a breath sample."
