A PRIMARY school certainly knows how to put the ‘wow’ factor into lessons.

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, pupils of Kearsley West Primary enjoyed a week of trips out and the chance to take part in learning outside the school grounds when the school brought back its popular ‘WoW Week’.

The week is when traditional lessons are cancelled and children learn about a new and exciting topic — which their head says has “been dearly missed” by pupils and staff.

Paderborn, Bolton's twin town in Germany, was the topic which children explored — everything from geography to culture and history of the two areas.

Trips out included a morning of play at Moss Bank Park and an afternoon of learning about the town’s history including the life of Bolton's famous son Samuel Crompton at Bolton Museum, where they also explored the links between their town and Ancient Egypt.

Youngsters also stepped back to the days of the Tudors to meet the Lord and Lady of the Manor at Smithills Hall and had a glimpse of the life and times of the hall during the Victorian period.

Visits to Bolton Arena and Bolton Geographical Resource Centre were also enjoyed by the youngsters.

A visit by the town’s first citizen, Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Linda Thomas ended the week on a high note when children showcased all of their learning.

Headteacher Jackie Fitton said: “This WOW Week has been an unforgettable one.

"I am incredibly proud of our staff for planning under such difficult circumstances, and of the children who have been exemplary ambassadors for our school.

"I am so pleased that the week has been an exciting and enjoyable one for everyone.”

Cllr Thomas said: “What an exceptionally well informed, friendly, polite group of youngsters I met.

"The school is so welcoming and child friendly, it was a delight to visit.”
