A MAN was taken to hospital with serious stab injuries yesterday evening.

Police were called to Church Road, Farnworth, at around teatime yesterday.

They said the 31-year-old was taken to hospital with 'life-changing' injuries.

His current condition is not yet known.

A  29-year-old man is set to be questioned later today.

Patrols have been stepped up - but detectives believe the stabbing was an 'isolated incident'

Det Sgt Robert Parker from Greater Manchester Police's Bolton Division said: "This has no doubt concerned the local community and we have deployed additional officers in the area to provide reassurance as our enquiries continue, however we would like to reassure residents that all information indicates this to be an isolated incident."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers attended and found a 31-year-old man with stab wounds, he was taken to hospital

"A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of (wounding with intent) and remains in custody for questioning.

Crime scene investigators were seen near the the incident with police officers on the scene at around 6pm

Police blocked off the road and witnesses said that CSI teams have been in the area, while a man "was put in the back of a van."

An eyewitness told The Bolton News: "If the crime scene is there then it’s serious.

"Police blocked off where the NatWest bank is, and put a bloke in the back of the van.
