A RARE bird was spotted in Horwich leading to the first ever official record of the species in adult plumage in Greater Manchester.
The Rose-coloured starling - with pink feathers on its back and chest and was spotted on Thursday in a residential area near to Green Lane Playing fields.
It was seen enjoying bird food put out by residents and local birdwatchers came to catch a glimpse.
Bird watcher Ken Haydock said: "For the last few years there has been a westerly expansion of its distribution range, with the first recorded breeding last year in France.
"This bird species could become more frequent in coming years, so it would be worthwhile for anyone else feeding their garden birds to keep a look out for another 'Rosy Starling."
