FILMING has been taking place in Bolton for a new horror series.

Red Rose, a BBC production, has been penned by Bolton screenwriter twins Michael and Paul Clarkson.

The series follows a group of British teenagers as they spend the summer after their GCSEs drifting around the Bolton moors. In the show, a rumour about an app called Red Rose, something which asks teens to take on increasingly dangerous challenges, is swirling about.

One character downloads the app, unwittingly setting all sorts of nasty things into motion.

Camera crews were spotted in Queen’s Park on Wednesday night.

Local councillor Richard Silvester said: “It is good to see yet more filming in the borough for this new production, which should premiere later this year or early next year. It was a surprise to see them in Queens Park and the filming didn’t cause any disruption.”

The Clarkson twins have previously penned an episode for the Netflix show The Haunting of Bly Manor, with the show receiving critical acclaim.

The pair have described their new show as a ‘love letter’ to Bolton.

The Clarkson twins previously said: “We’re thrilled that our first show will be with the BBC. We’ve been working in LA for a while now, so the opportunity to return to the UK for our own show is incredible.

“Red Rose is a love letter to our hometown and childhood. We get to explore what challenges face the bright but opportunity starved teenagers of today.

“Working on the Haunting Of Hill House has prepared us well to undertake this genre-driven challenge. We can’t think of a better home for it than the BBC. It’s gonna be well good.”

Bolton has seen a huge influx of TV shoots over the last couple of years, including for hit Channel 4 drama It’s A Sin and BBC crime drama Traces. Peaky Blinders has also previously shot scenes in the town centre.

Red Rose is set to eventually premiere on BBC Three and air on BBC One.
