GREATER Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has provided a more than legitimate reason for people to finally have a big clear-out - as clutter could cause a serious fire safety risk.
The service is encouraging people to clear out old rubbish, asking people on social media: “Why not declutter your home once in a while to keep fire escape routes clear in case of an emergency?”
GMFRS has been posting fire safety advice in recent days and has been focusing on escape routes within a home.
The service states that the normal way out of the house is usually your best escape route - so always keep it clear, as difficulties could arise using the route in pitch darkness or smoke.
