A SHOCKING video showing the moment a youth kicked a pensioner into the Mersey has been revealed.
As previously reported by the Warrington Guardian, the 74-year-old man was attacked as he stood on the banks of the river on Wharf Street, near to Riverside Retail Park, at around 2.30pm on Sunday, April 25.
Now footage of the disgraceful incident has been unearthed.
The clip shows one teen approaching the elderly victim from behind before delivering a sickening fly-kick to his back as his friend filmed the assault.
Two or three boys are believed to have been involved in the incident, and ran off laughing after the man fell into the water.
He was then pulled to safety by two women before walking home, having suffered a cut to his face after banging his head.
His family reported the incident to the police after he told them what had happened.
Cheshire Police had appealed for the Good Samaritans to come forward, and the force has confirmed that the pair have now been identified and have spoken to officers – whose enquiries remain ongoing.
Sergeant Mark Spaven said on Tuesday: “This was a shocking and upsetting incident which has understandably left the gentleman shaken.
“He returned home freezing cold and had sustained a cut to his face due to banging his head as he fell into the water.
“We are determined to find those responsible and I am urging anyone who has any information or believes they know who did this to come forward.
“I also want to appeal to the two women who thankfully came to his rescue to please get in touch with us as you could have information which could help our investigation.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML973152, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
