A MAN whose ceiling collapsed while his baby was in his flat is ‘devastated’ after losing thousands of pounds’ worth of belongings.

Joshua Tunnah, 22, was making some food in his flat near Bolton town centre on Wednesday afternoon at around 1pm when he heard a strange sound coming from upstairs, where his daughter, who turns one today, was sleeping.

Father-of-two Joshua told The Bolton News: “I heard a noise which I thought was my daughter crying.

“I went out of the living room and I saw water pouring from every light and light switch in the hallway and the bedroom.

“The only thing I could do was get her out of the house and ring Bolton at Home to explain the situation.

“Five minutes later, I realised that I left something upstairs so I went back up to my flat to realise the roof had collapsed pouring out with water which led to all my belongings being destroyed,” Mr Tunnah added.

Photo and video footage which was posted on social media shows water flowing heavily from upstairs which spread throughout the property - as well as damp mattresses and debris from the incident.

Electricians and plumbers have been round to ensure the property is safe and Bolton at Home have said it is fine for Mr Tunnah to remain living at the property - but with a girlfriend and two young children who regularly visit, he says this is ‘not an ideal situation’.

Bolton at Home can repair the damage but are unable to help with recovering any of the goods, says Joshua, as he had not taken out home insurance on any of his belongings.

He added: “All Bolton at Home said is that there’s nothing they can do about it.

“Now all the stuff I have bought like my bed worth £1,200, as well as all the kids’ stuff together which cost about £1,000, it’s a lot of money gone down the drain for a dad of two.

“I came from hostels to sorting my homing out and two years later, I’ve been left with nothing again,” Mr Tunnah added.

Joshua said that he is ‘absolutely devastated’ as he has also lost some precious items which belonged to his father, who died in September of last year.

Bolton at Home has been contacted for a response, but had not replied by the time this newspaper went to print.
