A FAMILIAR face is taking over a historic Bolton town centre pub — and has announced big plans for its reopening on, hopefully, April 12.
Bolton lass Lisa Day says she is "extremely excited" about taking over The Old Three Crowns in Deansgate, which closed around the start of the first lockdown last year.
She is currently renovating the landmark pub, including the beer garden area, with the pub's traditional look and historic roots at the heart of her plans.
She told The Bolton News: “I’ve been really blown away by it so far. I’m a Bolton girl through and through so being able to get this pub has been really exciting for me.
“I heard that the previous owner had put it up for sale as I had been working at the Greyhound not too far away and enquired about getting it straight away.
“It wasn’t until August that things started going through the process and I heard back around October and they asked if I were still interested which I very much was.
“I’m actually so excited about it, it’s been such a great experience so far.
“I want to very much keep it a traditional pub as it’s what the pub always has been and always should be.
“I feel the town centre has started to lose pubs that are welcoming and traditional, one where you know who runs the place and everyone gets on.
“A place that serves proper home made food, proper chips, proper pies, that’s the Bolton way."
Lisa has run many pubs across the borough in the past including the Farmers Arms in both Daubhill and Darcy Lever.
She said: “I’ve run pubs all my life, it’s what I’m passionate about, they’ve all been family run and this will be the same.
“We are revamping it at the moment, there’s a lot of things happening and we’re getting the beer garden as ready as it can be.
“If everything goes to plan we should be open by April 12 to serve outdoors but it depends on the brewery at the moment as work needs to be done to the cellar so we can’t give an official opening date yet. We really hope when it does open it can give everyone the lift we all need after a year of lockdowns. It’s really exciting times at the moment.”
