A COMMUNITY kitchen that was kicked out of its premises in the run up to Christmas last year has finally found a new home.

Bolton Community Kitchen, run by Gareth Bradbury, were given 30 days notice to vacate their premises in Bradshawgate in October last year, putting their Christmas plans in jeopardy.

The group had been without a base since November 25 last year, and were struggling to store the amount of food they were used to and therefore feeding the amount of people they used to.

The community kitchen would regularly provide over 100 meals a night to anyone who needed it from their Bradshawgate base.

Bolton Council helped the group set up a temporary unit in Tonge where they could store some food in freezers, but Gareth commented at the start of the year that this was not enough for the group to do their work.

However, the team recently announced on their Facebook page that they have found a new home, at Bolton Rugby Club.

The kitchen has worked with Bolton Rugby club, in Avenue Street, off Chorley Old Road, in the past and hopes to hold regular meals in the future.

The group announced this on their Facebook page, saying: "Bolton community kitchen are going to be open for takeaway at Bolton Rugby club Friday afternoon at 12.30.

"There will be Covid procedure in place for your safety and the safety of all the volunteers.

"Our first Friday will be the April 16. Please let every homeless person you see know.

"Thank you for your support."

In preparation for this the group have also made an appeal for volunteers to help serve at the meals.

The kitchen said volunteers "must be able to brew up and serve the group with a smile and warmth"

The first service is set to happen on Friday April 16 from 12:30pm, and will operate as takeaway only due to current coronavirus restrictions.
