A FAMILY who decided to travel over an hour to go walking in the Peak District had to be rescued by passing police officers after they lost their car keys.
The Lancashire family travelled to Derbyshire on Sunday where they parked their car on the A57 Snake Pass before getting out for a walk.
But when they returned to their vehicle they realised that they had lost their keys.
Luckily for them officers from Derbyshire’s Road Policing Team passed the while on patrol and swung into action.
A spokesman said: “A57 Snake Pass. Family from Lancashire out walking in the Peaks which is allowed, although not ideal.
“Return to the car and they've lost the keys. With no phone signal and getting very cold, it was lucky one of our patrols was passing to get them to safety.
“Reminder. You can travel for exercise. The distance travelled is not defined in law but guidelines are you stay local. These individuals have put themselves and consequently others at increased risk due to the distance travelled. Please think.”
