BLACKBURN Road was closed for several hours after a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

A666 Blackburn Road was closed in both directions from 12noon to around 3.15pm with emergency services on the scene between Springfield Road and Darwen Road, Egerton.

The accident occurred outside The Brewhouse Pub.

The incident has now been cleared.

Paramedics and the air ambulance was scrambled to the area.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly after 12noon to a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Blackburn Road, Bolton.

"The driver remained at the scene.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. Crews were called and three appliances were sent to the scene where they remained for 45 minutes. 

Firefighters ensured the pedestrian, a man, was brought to safety after being hit by the car into the embankment.

Crew manager Galvin said: "We attended the incident on the A666 Balckburn Road.

"A gentleman was hit by a car, we secured him and brought him back to safety from off the embankment.

"The damage to the car was superficial.

"Three appliances attended and we were there for 45 minutes.

"Air ambulance were called to the scene."

The nature of the injuries sustained by the pedestrian are not known at this stage.

Earlier Transport for Greater Manchester posted an alert on Twitter stating: "Due to a police incident outside the Brew House, Bolton the following roads have been closed Blackburn Road at the junction of Springfield Road Blackburn Road at the junction of Darwin Road southbound Allow extra time for your journey."

They have now released an update stating that the incident has been cleared.
