A SPEED camera has gone rogue flashing every couple of seconds, regardless of whether a vehicle is passing.

The camera located on Bolton Road, Radcliffe  towards Little Lever - has been clocking drivers whatever speed they are going.

It is understood the camera developed a fault over the weekend and has not been fixed, causing concern to motorists who are worried they could be landed with a fine at the start of the New Year.

One motorist who drove past it around 4pm said: “I saw the camera flashing constantly as I was approaching it, so I checked my speed and was going no more than 20 mph when I went through it.

“I have noticed the fault has been reported to Transport for Greater Manchester on Twitter, but it is the Christmas holidays.

“It is worrying to think I will now get fined and points incorrectly and have to spend time appealing it because the camera is obviously faulty. When I saw iT flashing like it did, I did think about turning my car around to avoid it, but of course that would not have been safe.

“It really does need fixing.”

Apparently it is not the first time the camera has developed a fault, with one person reporting a fault at the start of the month.

One Twitter use reported the fault to Transport for Greater Manchester and Bury Council via the social networking site one day ago.

He stated: “Speed camera on Bolton Road A665 in Radcliffe is flashing non-stop.

“Been going since 12 pm, saw it on the way into work and on the way home.”

The Bolton News has approached Transport for Greater Manchester about the fault and motorists' concerns.
