A BIG step has been taken for reinstating a tram connecting Bolton, Radcliffe and Bury, an MP has confirmed.
Mark Logan, MP for Bolton North East, has confirmed that the government has allocated funding for the Bolton connectivity and Metrolink proposals, in order to conduct a feasibility study into the project of connecting the towns by tram.
The proposals will revive existing but disused tracks, promoting "connectivity and economic opportunity", whilst "bridging the gap between some of the most economically challenged areas Greater Manchester", according to the MP.
He says this will also contribute to the regenerations of the towns and further aid congestion on the roads.
Mr Logan said: "This is great news for Bolton, securing the feasibility study is the next big step.
"I have been campaigning for this since being elected. I promised to deliver greater connectivity, economic prosperity and town centre rejuvenation. All of which is directly linked to this big announcement today.
"Thank you to everyone for your support, now let’s make this happen."
This was announced in the chancellor's, Rishi Sunak, National Infrastructure Strategy which outline 15 proposals that will benefit from feasibility study funding, to inform decision on further development, including reinstating links between Bolton, Radcliffe and Bury.
