A DRIVER narrowly avoided serious injury when his car left an accident-plagued road and hit a fence.
He had tried to avoid a motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction when he lost control and hit the fence, which smashed through the windscreen and impaled itself in the passenger seat.
The North West Air Ambulance were called but the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.
The accident happened yesterday in Belmont Road, between Belmont and Abbey Village.
A North West Air Ambulance spokesman said: "We urge all motorists to take care in tricky driving conditions and be aware of other road users."
