The catwalk shows for spring/summer 2008 brought us playsuits from New York, togas from Paris and brights from Milan.
So what did London bring us? Tie Dye!
No it's not all that bad, we did get a mini theme running throughout. Cocktail dresses and cocktail shorts should be on order for the New Year.
We're talking uber-short. The dresses should be bold, think canary yellow, and the shorts should skim the deriere. Fabrics come in satin and buttons finish off the look for detail.
Of course colours and styles from all the world's catwalks will drip through to the UK. We're hoping for the brights, we're not sure about the togas and we're wondering if playsuits will be forgiving to our lumps and bumps.
The high street however is right on cue and some are already showcasing their wares.
Take New Look. It is embracing next year's trends from the catwalk including tie dye. Rather than the hippie, 1980s images that pop into your head, think about colours blending together like this maxi-dress. Ok so when the winter is dreary you can't really see yourself in this, but come next summer - frolicking in a field, long walks on the beach... and it's only just turned December and we're dreaming of the sun.
New Look has also embraced the Carrie-esque knee socks which have been spotted on those famous pins on the set of the Sex and the City film, breathe - not long to wait. Try these green ones, teamed with the striped mini-dress - two trends in one. So no doubt next year every fashionista will be wearing these socks in homage to Miss Bradshaw, and New Look are happy to oblige you in where to get your fix.
Primark is right on trend with Milan's brights in introducing their spring/summer swimwear collection. This mix spot print push-up bikini is just £7.00 and due in store end of January. They have also released a lingerie range. This pink satin frill bra is £5 and the matching thong is £2.50. If you're feeling frisky then buy the suspender belt at £3. It kinda makes you want to put down that mince pie so you can fit into the sumptuous goodies.
Debenhams is temping us with too with blended shades with this tiered dress in their spring/summer collection. It is just perfect for a summer evening out. Try it with a light pashmina for the chilly nights. Debenhams has taken inspiration from the 1920s flapper era - shunning the 1970s which was seen all over the catwalks. The colours are more Arabian Nights than the yellows on the scene and it's a refreshing change. Definately one for the wardrobe.
We've saved the best till last and that has got to be this 1950s inspired dress from Debenhams. The high waist is here to stay and the warm brown strip at the bottom draws the eye down to create a feminine shape, cunningly hiding your bumps. The white vest brings a clean, crisp spring feel and the t-bar shoes set off the outfit perfectly.
So there you have it, a short sweet run-down of what's to come next year. Watch out for our sping/summer special where we will bring the extended version - start saving those pennies now.
