Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) have been selected as one of the Mayor of Horwich's chosen charities.
Mayor Gordon Stone has given the volunteer rescue service £1,000 as part of his charitable donations for the year 2019-2020.
The mayor had his position extended for a second year in May due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Alongside BMRT, he also chose the charities Guide Dogs for the Blind and AFC Masters, a football club run for children and adults with a disability.
The mayor said: "I chose the rescue team due to their hard work during the moors fires of 2018 which took a great strain on them.
"I'm an avid walker and runner but luckily I've never needed their services myself.
"However you never know when you might need their help. I was once involved in an incident where a man needed rescuing, their work is very important."
A spokesperson for Bolton Mountain Rescue Team said:"We are proud to have been chosen as one of the Horwich mayor’s charities of the year.
"A few weeks ago Steve was delighted to receive £1000 from Gordon Stone on behalf of the team.
This has been a challenging year for fundraising and is therefore a welcome addition to our new vehicles fund. Watch this space for updates over the next few months."
