A DRIVER has been left “terrified” of visiting the Royal Bolton Hospital after receiving THREE parking fines.
Jacqueline Leck of Stitch-Mi-Lane, Breightmet, visited the hospital on September 24 and 26 to take ex-partner 78-year-old David Leck for a blood test and check up.
Mr Leck is “very ill” and blind so 62-year-old Jacqueline parked at the Churchill Unit on the hospital site so he could easily get to his appointment.
But days later she received two £70 parking fines, receiving a further fine a day later, for parking at different sites at the hospital.
Jacqueline said: “He’s blind so I have to park him as near to the section he needs to go to as possible.
“If I’d taken him to the normal car park it would take at least ten minutes to get him to where he needs to go and he would get very short of breath as it’s quite up hill for him.
“I only parked where I did as we have a disabled badge for the car and we parked in a disabled spot.
“I couldn’t see anything telling me to pay or register in the Churchill car park and it was a shock to get the fines through, especially as I was just trying to help a very ill old friend.
“My dad died of a stroke and I’m just trying to make sure it doesn’t happen to him.
“He’d been having to go to the hospital every couple of days for tests so we were just trying to help him out — he’s on his last legs.
“I’m still worried about waking up and having another letter through the post-box, it makes me frightened to visit the hospital now, I can’t afford this.
“David even said after that it would have been much cheaper if he’d just got a taxi.”
The hospital has urged visitors to make sure their vehicle is registered properly to avoid receiving fines like this.
A spokesman from the Royal Bolton Hospital, said: “Fines are only payable if a vehicle has not been registered or registered incorrectly, or if a vehicle is parked in the wrong area according to the signage on site.
“Blue badge holders visiting the hospital site must register their vehicle on the registration system so that the cameras can recognise them.
“Non blue badger holders must just use the terminals on exit to make their payment.”
