Name of the pub: Bob’s Smithy Inn
Address of the pub: 1448 Chorley Old Rd
Landlord: Jordan Brookes
How long have you been the landlord for? I took over seven years ago but I’ve worked here since I was 16 — it’s a family business
Give us some history about the pub: Bob’s Smithy Inn is a rural country pub and Restaurant located in Bolton.
The owners, Lorraine and Stewart along with their son Jordan have run this successful business for nearly three decades. Situated close to Rivington and the surrounding area, the views of Greater Manchester from the pub are exceptional and it is ideal for walkers and sightseeing. Only two miles from the Macron Stadium — home of Bolton Wanderers — it’s an ideal location for travelling fans.
Bobs Smithy’s name originated back to a time when there was a blacksmith living across the road. As a regular, it is believed the pub was eventually named after him. The building dates back to the early 17th century, which in time has seen a great transformation.
In 2011, the owners decided to expand their busy pub into a restaurant, employing a team of excellent chefs and waiting on staff to serve freshly prepared home cooked dishes. Since then, they have received an ‘Award of excellence’ annually from Trip advisor.
Is food served? If so what’s on the menu? Yes — traditional pub food, chef specials all home made locally sourced produce. We have added a tapas menu — we do three nibbles for £12.95 to make things easier and quicker. Cheese and onion pie is a popular dish. We have professional chefs to help us stand out from the crowd.
Is there a beer garden? Yes we have a lovely beer garden with beautiful views of Manchester, Warrington.
Most popular drink served is: San Miguel and Wainwright’s bitter.
Most memorable moment at the pub: Celebrating 25 years and looking forward to 30 next year. Lots of good memories over the years.
Have you faced any challenges within the industry? The smoking ban was a memorable one but nothing beats the covid challenge.
The best thing about running a pub is... Meeting people and getting on with old and new customers.
The perfect hangover cure is... Another pint
