Police are investigating after a toxic substance was thrown into a fishery lake near Haigh Hall.
Between 5pm on Friday, November 23, and 9amthe following day, a number of small metal canisters containing a toxic substance were dumped into a lake off Meadow Pit Lane.
A number of containers have since been recovered from the lake, although it is not known if all of the canisters have been removed.
The Environment Agency was informed and reported that there was no danger to the public as a result of the pollution. No fish have been reported dead as a result of the incident at this stage.
Inquiries are continuing and police are now appealing for anyone who saw somebody acting suspiciously near the lake to come forward.
