A BOLTON schoolboy received recognition from The Duchess of Cornwall for his dedication to reading during lockdown.
Eight-year-old Milan Paul Kumar read over fifty books when lockdown began and was nominated as a lockdown hero for The Bolton News.
The reading challenge should have taken twelve months to complete but was finished a lot sooner by Milan in just three months.
Because of this, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, who is the patron of the Royal Society of Literature wrote to the Park Road Junior Boys school pupil and congratulated him on his achievements.
Milan's mum, Daxa Kumar, said her son was 'amazed to receive the letter'.
She said: "When the letter arrived Milan was super exited he said it was amazing to get a letter from a member of the royal family.
"We were all so proud of Milan he set himself a challenge and completed it."
Daxa said Milan completed the Blazer Black Belt Book Challenge by his school, where he read David Walliams titles and Harry Potter, which Camilla has previously revealed the future king of England is also a huge fan of.
The letter was addressed to Milan's Lostock home address.
The duchess wrote:
Dear Milan,
Thank you for your lovely card and telling me the exciting news that you have been nominated for Bolton's lockdown reading hero! That is absolutely wonderful and I do hope you are proud of yourself. Keep up the good work!
With best wishes, Camilla.
His auntie Roopa from Bolton originally nominated her nephew for The Bolton News' lockdown hero.
Roopa said: "This is just incredible and we are immensely proud of him.
"Just incredible and we are immensely proud of him.
"At the start of lockdown I remember Milan writing a poem encouraging me to read my way through lockdown and I hope Milan can help motivate other children to read to maintain a healthy wellbeing."
