A barber has revealed what a visit to the hairdresser’s could be like once lockdown restrictions have been lifted.
Jiggi Madhavji, who owns Jiggi Salon and Spa located inside Bolton Whites Hotel, is hoping that hair salons will be able to reopen in July.
However, in order to keep clients safe, precautions will need to be taken such as limiting the number of people within the salon and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
It could also mean that when you book your appointment, you'll be asked about any recent illnesses alongside what kind of trim you want.
Jiggi has run the salon for nine years and says he is ‘positive’ about reopening and his priority is make sure that people are comfortable with visiting the salon.
He said: “Hairdressers are the last on the list to be reopened, obviously things could change but we hope to get going again in July.
“We’ve been trying to look to the future and forward plan on how we will operate.
“Obviously we will have to wear protective clothing, aprons and masks. I think masks will definitely be compulsory for clients too.
“We will be asking people whether they have been in good health and if they have been ill; this will be something we will check with staff too.
“There’s only three of us in the salon and with our appointment system we will be able to control the number of people we have in at any time.
“I think we will be allowed to do shampooing and everything we normally do. We should get guidelines closer to the time, but we could do we having these sooner.
“I’ve seen some information on the internet but things could change, it’s just being prepared for what might happen and staying open minded."
Jiggi has been using the time off to recharge, but he is looking forward to welcoming clients back.
He said:“I’m trying to be calm about it all and using this time to reflect on my business. I’ve always kept a mindset of going with the flow and running a business can be unpredictable, with the virus everything stopped over night.
“The furlough scheme has been fantastic and we’ve been able to support ourselves financially.
“I am positive clients will want to return as soon as we open; people want to get back to their normal routines and they also want that relaxing experience we can offer them.
“Obviously it is down to the customer and how they feel about returning, but if you’ve got a good reputation and your clients trust you then they should feel safe.
“We’ll be there to give people that feel-good experience they need after lockdown.”
