Bolton’s very own castle can be seen from the air in this photograph taken from the air in 1988.
The picture shows Lever Park at Rivington with the castle nestling on the banks of Lower Rivington Reservoir.
It was built as a replica of Liverpool Castle, part of industrial magnate Lord Leverhulme’s grand plan for the area.
When he died in 1925 his family decided it would be impossible to complete work on the castle and other parts of the estate.
The road leading away from the castle lead to Rivington Lane which runs between Rivington village and Horwich.
