Victory with Victoriana
It's time to walk the line with the winner of Sky One's Project Catwalk.
Wayne Avaline has just launched his new collection with Debenhams just seven months after winning the reality tv show hosted by Kelly Osbourne.
The show follows a group of fashion designers as they compete against each other to avoid being "the next fashion victim" and win a £20,000 cash prize, and an exclusive deal to produce a range of clothes for Designers at Debenhams.
Wayne's range is inspired by Victorian tailoring corsetry - his signature design detail. The look is stylish and feminine, in a sophisticated palette of black and cream with metallic highlights. Chic cocktail dresses inspired by 50s feminine silhouettes combine with sensationally dramatic evening dresses with a 40s twist to form a unique capsule evening wear collection. The injection of a trouser suit complements the range by contributing a slightly more androgynous feel whilst still maintaining a stylish elegance.
Wayne graduated from Central St Martins college of Art and Design, London, in 1997 with a degree in Womenswear Design. As a result of his final degree show he was offered a job with the Benetton group in Italy designing with Sisley. However Wayne's true passion lay in the direction of designing and making his own clothes which led him to compete in the second series of Project Catwalk.
He went on to win and lucky for us because his collection if pure class - from a different era but with a modern twist.
This black and white cocktail dress with satin bow is yours for £100. The collection also includes a variety of dresses, cocktail jackets and suit trousers. Perfect for turning you into a 1940s screen siren.
Teal
Wallis have come out and surprised us all with an instant winner - teal. This medium to dark, blue/green colour will look fabulous against the drab of winter. The jacket, at £65, can be worn for a smart meeting at work or with the skirt at £35, as your Sunday best for dinner.
Causing a Storm
Connotations of storm? I'm thinking rain, snow, mud and floods - not fashion, surely.
That was until Monsoon launched Storm - an exclusively-designed, trend-driven capsule collection that will be refreshed monthly. Hitting 30 top stores across the country, the range complements Monsoons's main autumn/winter collection, but has its own distinctive design influences and handwriting.
This Eddie top, at £55, does look like someone has just slashed your favourite T-shirt and splashed it with paint, in a modern art-esque manner but think outside the box and team this top with black trousers.
In the North you can only get the collection in Liverpool, the Manchester Arndale Centre and Manchester Trafford Centre but you can also buy online - oh the joy of cyber shopping.
The rest of the collection fuses the quirky slash top with satin pussy bow collar dresses in this season's shade of purple, monochrome jersey dresses and a one shoulder little black dress.
It's a little bit of lux designer at a fraction of the price.
