THE country's political heavyweights have been pitching for your votes. With just a couple of days to go before the polls open, The Bolton News has asked every party leader why people in the town sould vote for them.
Here Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell lays out why he thinks you should vote Labour:
"I WAS born in Liverpool and my family live in Lancashire, I am proud to be from the best corner of Britain.
"Our region built Britain. Our ports and railways and textile factories led the industrial revolution. We split the atom and housed the first computer. Even today, there is more advanced manufacturing and chemical production here than in the rest of the country.
"But nearly a decade of Tory governments have let the North West down. They have slashed funding to our schools and hospitals to pay for handouts to their billionaire friends. This week we revealed their plans to sell out our NHS to Trump’s America.
"They have cut flood defence spending. They have neglected our railways and industries. They have pushed families into poverty. The country isn’t working for people in the North.
"Labour will end this unfairness. We will force the richest to pay their fair share not only to undo the damage of the Tory government, but to prepare Britain for the great challenges of the future.
"Labour has a plan to deliver real change for the North West working directly with people here on the things that matter to you.
"If the Tories win, transport funding to the North West will continue to be £1,574 per person lower than in London. If Labour win we will get Crossrail for the North built and invest in buses and rail, connecting millions of people. Our Green Industrial Revolution will bring 110,000 new well-paid jobs to the North West.
"We will connect over three million North West households and businesses to full fibre broadband. And we will build 18,000 new council and social homes a year. These will be high quality, green homes for the future, like the designer new council homes built by Labour in Salford. And our Real Living Wage of £10 per hour will immediately put money in the pockets of 882,000 workers in the region who are struggling to make ends meet
"This is about enabling people to live healthier and happier lives.
"But it’s also about taking back what is ours, and moving real power out of Westminster."
