EMPLOYEES from a number of firms have spoken of their pride in being called upon to assist in a DIY SOS project for the family of a little boy with severe autism.
Dozens of businesses played their part in a full home makeover for the Taylor-Mann’s, who live in Little Lever.
The programme was aired on BBC last week, and told the story of their property transformation — all in aid of nine-year-old William.
DIY SOS have built a new downstairs extension with adaptations, separate bedrooms, a calm space for William and a social area for the family.
Mum Heather Taylor-Mann, an assistant psychologist for the NHS, said: “The work on the house has had such a positive impact on all of our lives. William is thriving and is so much calmer. We are all now getting more sleep which means I have been able to return to work.”
Following the big reveal on the programme, dad Martin, who is a custody officer for Greater Manchester Police said: “You’ve changed our little boy’s life. I’ll forever be so grateful to all of you.”
Among the companies to take part was Urmston-based Bathroom Takeaway, who installed a complimentary bathroom suite for the family.
Manager Mark Harding said: “It was great to be involved in such a fantastic project and to see the impact that the renovation has made to the family.”
Mr Harding spent half a day building a TV stand as well as ensuring that the bathroom items were all delivered on time.
He also had the chance to meet Nick Knowles and Laurence Llewellyn Bowen.
Poundbakery, which is headquartered in Sidney Street, Bolton, helped to feed the volunteers. Marketing manager Keely Palin said: “We were delighted to support DIY SOS here in Bolton and feed all the local volunteers who worked so hard to get the house ready in time.
“We wish the family all the best and are glad they all enjoyed the pasties and cakes.”
Freelance garden designer Emma Aspinall also contributed by working on the family’s garden for the full nine-day makeover. Emma donated her time free of charge and has since been asked to help out at other DIY SOS gardens.
The Big Build - Bolton programme, which aired on November 27, is available on BBC iPlayer for 24 days.
