BOLTON Lever Rotary Club and company Safestore have teamed up in a bid to get people to donate good quality, unwanted coats to keep the homeless and vulnerable warm this Christmas.
Self-storage company Safestore is asking for donations of good quality coats as part of The Rotary Club’s ‘Wrap Up Greater Manchester’ campaign.
The scheme will run until Monday, November 25 and coats can be dropped off at the Bolton North Safestore branch.
Collections will be sorted and distributed to over 100 charities, homeless shelters, vulnerable women and children centres, and to elderly people and refugees.
Shahid Kadodia, digital and marketing director at Safestore, said: “With so many people in need, sadly some of the most vulnerable people will not have the luxury of wearing a coat this winter.
“With this figure only set to rise, we are delighted to be helping Wrap Up Greater Manchester – it’s a really great cause which supports many vulnerable people during this cold time of year.”
Safestore are providing storage free of charge to the Bolton Club who will house the collected coats in the units until distribution at the end of November.
Ann-Marie Etherington, of the Rotary Club, said: “The cold winter months ahead can be incredibly tough for those sleeping rough, or in need, and The Rotary Club’s ‘Wrap Up Greater Manchester’ is hoping to offer support and compassion to those desperately in need.
“We sincerely appreciate the allocation of space from Safestore, which enables our volunteer teams to easily sort through and package up the thousands of coats donated to us for those who are vulnerable and in need.
The homeless charity Shelter estimated last year that there were 434 rough sleepers in the North West.

BOLTON Lever’s Rotary Club and British company Safestore have teamed up in a bid to get locals to donate good quality, unwanted coats to keep the homeless and vulnerable warm this Christmas.
There are currently over 400 rough sleepers in the area who will all be in desperate need of warmth this winter. The coats will also go on to support over 100 other charities for the homeless, vulnerable women, refugees, children and elderly people in need.
The campaign has seen The Rotary Club extend London’s highly supported winter coat campaign by Hands on London into the North-West. The donations will be part of the pilot campaign named ‘Wrap Up Greater Manchester’ and will seek to provide less fortunate locals with coats for the cold months of winter.
The operation undertaken by Bolton Lever Rotary Club has been running since the 28th October and will go on until the 25th November. 20 drop off locations have been set up around the area with the main collection point being Safestore in north Bolton located on Egyptian Street.
Safestore are providing storage free of charge to the Bolton Club who will house the collected coats in the units until distribution at the end of November.
