A COUNCILLOR who recently joined the Lib Dems after leaving Labour has announced she will be standing at the next local election – but elsewhere.
Breightmet councillor Debbie Newall, who previously said she would not seek re-election in 2020, has decided to stand in Kearsley instead.
After joining the Lib Dems in the summer, she was given the opportunity to stand as a candidate in the ward where she has lived for 37 years.
She said: "It has been an honour and a pleasure to represent Breightmet and I will always be grateful to the residents for putting their trust in me in 2016.
"I know that I have always done my very best to return that trust and I wish my successor, from whatever political party, the very best of luck when the time comes for me to step down and hand over the reins."
