THE mother of four children killed in a petrol bomb attack on their home has died.
Michelle Pearson suffered severe burns in the arson attack at her family's home in Jackson Street, Walkden, back in December 2017.
In a Facebook post, Michelle's mother, Sandra Lever, revealed the news of her death almost two years on from the fire.
She said: "Sadly last night, After a hard 20 months of fighting. Our beautiful Michelle gained her wings and went to join her babies."
Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Yesterday, we were made aware that Michelle Pearson, who was seriously injured in a house fire in Walkden in 2017, passed away.
“As the Senior Investigating Officer for the investigation into the fire, I know first-hand how devastating the death of her four children was for Michelle and the news of her passing is incredibly tragic.
“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Michelle’s loved ones at this terrible time. We will ensure that they receive any support they need from the investigation team as they come to terms with their loss.”
Michelle's children, Demi, aged 15, Brandon, aged eight, Lacie, aged seven, and Lia, aged three, all died in the attack while Michelle spent months in a coma and did not learn of her children's deaths until months later.
Earlier this summer, the family revealed that Michelle had taken a turn for the worse and was in a critical condition.
Zak Bolland was jailed for life last year after being found guilty of murdering the four children, as well of three counts of attempted murder.
His friend David Worrall was also handed a life sentence after being found guilty of murdering four children but found not guilty of three counts of attempted murder.
Bolland's then girlfriend Courtney Brierley was found guilty of manslaughter and was given 21 years in a young offenders’ institution.
The group targeted the home as part of an ongoing feud with Michelle's 17-year-old son, Kyle, who escaped the fire.
The trial heard that Bolland and Worrall, encouraged by Brierley, sneaked around the back of the Pearsons' home and lifted out a fence panel before creeping into the garden.
There, the pair, who had been armed with a machete and an axe, smashed the kitchen window, slashed a roller blind with the machete and hurled their fire bombs into the property.
Upstairs, the family was trapped, unable to get to safety down the stairs. Kyle and his friend Bobby managed to climb out of a window and suffered smoke inhalation.
But Ms Pearson and the rest of the household were not so fortunate. Firefighters, who quickly arrived at the house, found Demi dead. Her younger siblings, Brandon and Lacie, were rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save them.
Toddler Lia was alive but, after two days in hospital, doctors were unable to find any brain activity and devastated members of her family made the heart-breaking decision to turn off her life support machine.
Badly burned and severely injured, Michelle spent months in a coma, only regaining consciousness enough to be told of her children’s deaths two weeks before the murder trial was due to start.
Earlier this year, she was filmed releasing balloons outside a children's hospital in memory of her children.
