THE international golf competition which Bolton once dreamed of hosting will take place in Ireland instead.
The Ryder Cup tournament has been an important part of the plans to build a golf course and more than 1,000 homes at Hulton Park.
The development was granted planning permission last year on the condition of a successful bid for the 2026 tournament.
Since then, the government called in the decision, which means that a three-week public inquiry into the proposed development will take place in October.
Developer Peel Land and Property announced that it would put back its bid, looking to the 2030 and 2034 tournaments instead.
