WHEN it comes to Italian restaurants in and around Bolton, it would seem as though we are spoiled for choice.
We asked you to recommend your favourites and you came up with some crackers. Here we reveal five of the most popular Italians in the area based on the suggestions we received.
As with all of our five of the best features, this is not meant to be a definitive list but gives a flavour (if you’ll forgive the pun) of the quality of restaurant out there.
Capisci Bar and Restaurant, Bradshaw Road, Bolton
One of the most popular Italians in the area if our unofficial survey is anything to go by. ‘Fabulous food every time backed up by great service and a genuine desire to make your visit memorable. Lots of gins to choose from too’ was one of the recommendations. The menu includes a wide range of pasta and meat dishes although you won’t find any pizzas.
San Marino, Belmont Road, Bolton
The taste of the Mediterranean on offer in an idyllic rural location. The set menu appears to be particularly popular with regulars who are also very quick to praise the friendly staff. A takeaway service based on the restaurant menu is also available. One reviewer paid what must be the ultimate compliment - ‘We’ve never failed to be impressed by the food or the service; so we decided to book our wedding here’.
Café Italia, Moss Bank Way, Bolton
The relaxed, informal atmosphere of this cosy café struck a chord with many of you. Certainly it has the capacity to surprise with many visitors being wowed by the quality of the food on offer the the levels of service. One diner commented: ‘Absolute hidden gem in the North West. Authentic cuisine and attentive staff with a fine selection of wines!’ Offering everything from breakfast to afternoon tea, and with an upstairs function room, Cafe Italia is a genuine all-rounder. Look out too for the tempting speciality cakes - apparently they are very hard to resist.
Casalingo, Church Street, Ainsworth
Many of you, it would seem, are only too happy to make the journey to Ainsworth to this authentic, family-run Italian. A particular favourite for special occasions and larger party bookings the levels of service match the quality of the food. ‘We have never had a bad meal here yet. This place is perfect for a romantic evening or for a family evening out’ was one recommendation. Special steak nights are also very popular.
Baci Italian restaurant, Arthur Lane, Harwood
The variety of dishes available on the menu are a major attraction with seafood a particular speciality. If you have a more adventurous palate, there’s shark steak or stuff calamari to try. ‘Been coming for years and never let down. Food always on point. Great atmosphere, service and lovely, attentive staff’ was one review which sums up Baci’s appeal.
