THE 'god' of all fish and chip shops has come to Bolton.

Poseidon's Fish and Chip Shop opened five weeks ago and things are going swimmingly well.

Using his surveyor's eye for buildings and locations, Jonathan Barker-Smith has opened it in St George's Road, Bolton.

He happened on the building while looking at office spaces.

Jonathan, said: "I thought this is a good location for a traditional fish and chip shop and the rest is history."

He said that he wanted to serve up traditional English fayre in a building with character but which was also in keeping with modern needs, including state-of-the art kitchen and sustainability is high on the menu.

Jonathan said: "We have screens showing people what is happening in the kitchens, we use local produce, source sustainable fish.

"People want information about the food they eat and if they want to know what is happening in the kitchens, they can look up at the screens."

Research before the shop opened included finding the perfect potato to makes the chips from.

Poseidon's Fish and Chips, in the few weeks it has been open is already attracting great reviews — and Jonathan is seeing return customers.

"I've never done Facebook before but we are getting good reviews, things are going really well.

"One said it was the best chips they had ever had," he said.

As well as serving up traditional fish and chips, the family-run business also puts other dishes on the menu including steamed cod on bed of Jersey Royals and tender stem broccoli.

More dishes are set to be added on the menu alongside the favourite British dish of traditional fish and chips.

The shop is the latest to have opened —with Frurt opening its third branch in the town just before Easter — in and around Bolton adding to the town's growing reputation as a food and drink destination.
