OFFICIALS from the PFA are meeting with players and coaching staff at Lostock this morning to discuss pay problems at Wanderers.

The players’ union have been called in to mediate with owner Ken Anderson and his advisor Paul Aldridge after salaries were not paid in March.

It is the second successive month in which pay has been late – and EFL rules state a two-window transfer embargo can now be enforced.

Players are seeking advice on their contractual obligations after going on a 48-hour strike last week in training to show support for administrative staff who had also not been paid.

It is understood that players can give a 14-day notice period to the club after going without pay for a fortnight, after which they would be legally entitled to walk away for free.

Despite a flurry of social media rumours, assurances from Anderson and claims from ex-Watford owner Laurence Bassini last week that he was close to completing a deal to buy the club, there has been little physical evidence of progress in attempts to sell the club.

Problems are now piling up on a daily basis, the latest of which has seen official travel company Tyrers request that payments for the upcoming game against Blackburn Rovers are made directly with them, and not through the club.
