A PRIMARY school has community written all over it!
Moorgate Primary School prides itself at being at the heart of Tonge Moor and has opened a small community library for local elderly residents. It is the latest offering by the school to bridge the generation gap and a special launch was held this week, which included providing holistic therapies — which pupils benefit from — and a buffet lunch.
It is hoped to, as well as providing a community library provision, elderly residents will be able to access relaxing treatments by bidding for more funding.
Headteacher Debbie Hopwood, said: "This is not just about opening a library.
"It is about a holistic approach for the wellbeing of the library patrons, the children and the place of the school within the community.
"A lot of research has been carried about the impact of children and the elderly working together and how this can help to combat positive mental health and feeling of isolation and loneliness.
"We would like to thank Ambitions for Ageing, who have been hugely supportive of the school, for funding this initiative."
