POLICE are appealing for information and pictures to help them combat the ongoing problem of off-road motorcyclists.
Groups of people on motorbikes have been reported as causing a nuisance on a daily basis in the Breightmet area and around Leverhulme Park.
The bike can cause damage to the ground in parks and on paths, as well as being a danger to walkers or cyclists.
Neighbourhood officer PC Melanie Rowley said: “We want to appeal to the public to send us the most specific information they can.
“We need more specific times, details of clothing and the colours and types of bikes.
“The more information we have the more we can use in an effort to get these bikes seized.”
She also asked anyone who could safely take pictures of the bikers to send these to police along with further details on the time and location of the incidents.
The issue comes at a time when police and residents have been battling problems with anti-social behaviour from groups of off-road bikers across the borough.
In October last year, a major police operation with carried out in Johnson Fold, Hall i’th’ Wood, Astley Bridge and Breightmet following complaints about nuisance off-road motorcyclists.
The scheme was motivated by more than 50 complaints received about off-road motorcycles, scooters and quad bikes, which helped officers target problem areas.
In less than five hours, a quad bike was seized in Dunsop Drive, Johnson Fold, a warning was given to an off-road motorcyclist in Bottom o’th’ Moor, Harwood, and police officers gathered vital intelligence from members of the public.
