DUNSCAR Golf Club has raised a phenomenal £20,160 for Bolton Hospice in memory of one of its members.
Andrew Taylor, 'Taz' to his friends, was a lifelong member and supporter of the Golf Club. Sadly, earlier this year, aged just 41, Andrew lost his hard-fought battle with cancer, leaving behind his devastated wife, children, family and friends.
One of Andrew’s wishes, was that money be raised in his memory, to thank Bolton Hospice for the incredible support that he had received from them, not just during his time in the Hospice, but also through Hospice at Home.
Andrew’s brother, Simon Taylor, teamed up with childhood friend, and Chairman of Dunscar Golf Club, Adam Whalley, to do just that. Their fundraising efforts were sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland in Bolton, where Andrew had been the Manager, and with the help of the Club’s members, and many other local businesses, they organised a golf competition, auction and raffle prizes, and a gala dinner with live music. The day was a huge success, a lot of fun and a real celebration of Andrew’s life.
Simon said, “As a family, we are so grateful for the care and love that Andrew received from Bolton Hospice. We are also incredibly proud of just how many people wanted to get involved in helping us to fundraise in his memory. The final amount of money we were able to donate to the Hospice was way beyond our expectations, which wouldn’t have been possible without the phenomenal support of Dunscar Golf Club, Andrew’s friends, and his colleagues at the RBS.”
