I don't know whether anyone can help me resolve a family mystery surrounding my grandfather.
We originate from Bolton although we have now lived in Suffolk for over 40 years.
For some time my mother has been trying to trace any information regarding her father, my grandfather, whose name we don't even know.
A very long shot I know but we have recently discovered, from another branch of the family, that it is believed that my grandmother, Edith Crook, was left standing at the altar by her "intended".
She was pregnant at the time with my mother and, as this would have been in 1929, give or take a year, I would have thought that it caused quite a scandal at the time.
All we know is that my grandfather and grandmother worked together at Tom Taylor's Cotton Mill in Lever Street, Bolton.
We do not even know the church where this may have happened, although it is likely to have been St Michael's or possibly St Peter's or SS Simon & Jude. M y grandmother remained tight lipped about this and has long since passed away.
I have failed to find out whether any Banns Books still exist or whether there are any records existing from Taylor's Mill that may record any such scandal around that time. I f anyone remembers anything from that time or knows whether any records exist that may help me I would be most grateful.
