EUROPE’S largest independent car dealership is to open a store in Bolton.

Arnold Clark is already advertising 75 jobs for its new store which will be on the former Toys R Us site on Trinity Retail Park.

Refurbishment work is currently being carried out on the former toy store, which closed earlier this year after administrators failed to find a buyer for the collapsed retailer.

The renovated showroom is set to be completed in February and anyone interested in applying for jobs at the store will be able to do so later this week.

Toys R Us collapsed earlier this year, leading to the closure of all of its 100 stores across the UK and the loss of around 3,000 jobs. The Trinity Retail Park shop closed its doors in March, after a month of clearance sales and has been left vacant ever since.

It followed efforts to find a buyer for the failing company, lead by administrative firm Moorfields Advisory Ltd.

But Simon Thomas, joint administrator and partner at Moorfields, admitted that no new owner could be found, despite initial interest from some parties.

He explained: “We have made every effort to secure a buyer for all or part of the company’s business. This process attracted some interest, but ultimately no party has been able to move forward with a formal bid prior to the expiration of the stated deadline.”

Redundancies at the company began at its head office, but the Bolton store was one of the first in a batch of closures which lead to the end of the Toys R Us operations in the UK.

Information on jobs at the new store is available here.
