THE fight for Premiership survival took a new twist at the Reebok yesterday when Jussi Jaaskelainen and Abdoulaye Meite - both well over six-foot - squared up to each other in an angry exchange.

Wanderers were holding on for a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers, Spurs, when the tension seemed to get the better of the team-mates.

Jaaskelainen remonstrated furiously with Meite, who then turned on the keeper and pushed him in the face.

It might have appeared unseemly, but it was a spat Sammy Lee saw as a sign that his players care deeply about the situation they are in - second bottom of the Premiership with just four points from seven games.

"If anybody had any doubts as to the lads' commitment, then that said it all in a nutshell," the manager said.

"Sometimes you want a bit more of that, be it on the field or on the training ground.

"It shows they are committed and care passionately."
