Wanderers 1 Tottenham 1

IVAN Campo marked his return to the side in superb style as he grabbed a 38th-minute equaliser against Tottenham to lift Wanderers off the foot of the table.

The Spanish midfielder, comfortably Wanderers' best player, had not even been included in any squad this season before today's game but came in from the cold to head home El-Hadji Diouf's free-kick.

The midfield man's towering header cancelled out Robbie Keane's 34th-minute opener for fellow strugglers Spurs.

The Tottenham skipper pounced after Wanderers failed to clear following Jussi Jaaskelainen's smart stop from Jermaine Jenas.

Sammy Lee's side were indebted to several fine saves by the Wanderers keeper.

Jaaskelainen reacted well to keep out Dimitar Berbatov's acrobatic volley on 26 minutes and, after the break, was at full stretch to tip Teemu Tainio's low drive round the upright.

Wanderers could have had a penalty six minutes after the restart when Michael Dawson appeared to push Kevin Davies in the area, but referee Andre Marriner waved away the appeals.

Steed Malbranque's dipping volley was just inches over after Jaaskelainen had flapped at Tainio's header on the hour mark.

But the Wanderers shot-stopper made amends for that error when he flung himself to his right to keep out Keane's blast with just four minutes remaining as the Whites held on for a point.
