'GHOULS' and boys are in for a treat this week as the mummies return for Halloween at Crompton Place

In celebration of Bolton Library and Museum’s new Egyptology Collection, Crompton Place is making sure Halloween fans really get wrapped up in its frighteningly fun festivities.

Tomorrow, little terrors are invited to enjoy a (g)host of ‘free-kish’ entertainment at the Bolton shopping centre.

Terrifying tales will be brought to life at its spooky story corner, there will be a showcase of ancient artefacts to explore, as well as Egyptian-themed craft activities to take part in from 11am until 3pm in the unit next to Warren James and Subway. The bravest boys and girls will also have the opportunity to dip their hands in mysterious jars to discover what tricks or treats lie inside.

There is even more hauntingly good fun to be had on the hieroglyphics trail around the shopping centre, where families will have to decode ancient scripts to receive chocolate goodies.

The activities have been organised by Bolton Libraries and Museum Service – the new galleries, located in Bolton Museum, opened last month following a £3.8m refurbishment.

Paula Wood, centre manager at Crompton Place, said: “The launch of the new Egyptology Collection is hugely exciting and as big fans of Halloween, we thought this a great opportunity to celebrate the two occasions together. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing lots of creativity during the arts and crafts sessions, where event-goers can make mummies and learn lots of fascinating things.”

Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr John Byrne, added: “We hope the activities at the centre will inspire new visitors, both young and old, to join the tens of thousands who have already visited the new galleries. Our Egyptian gallery showcases 2,000 items and is one of the best in the world.”
